A mouse, genetically modified to carry a human liver, is being used to study human liver infections.  By “humanizing” the mouse, drug treatments can be modified and tested on the cheap mouse model, before any expensive clinical trials are conducted on humans, further preventing adverse side effects from reaching the mass markert.
